Have you wondered where our habits, whether good or bad, come from? Our inherent thought patterns, talents, beliefs, desires, behaviors, anxieties, fears and how we take our relationships are just a few examples of things which are affected by our subconscious. For this very reason, it becomes important to know how it works so that you know how to train your subconscious mind.

What is the subconscious mind?

Our Mind Can Be Divided Into Three/Four Levels:

The different layers of your mind with the corresponding frequencies.

  1. Superconscious Mind:
    • Our active, alert, busy mind works at 30-100 Hz (approx. values) frequency. It is also called the SUPERCONSCIOUS.
    • This level of operation is associated with anxiety, alertness, and high mental activity.
    • Just like the hard disk of a computer, when our mind is working at this level for prolonged times, it may lead to serious mental and physical problems.
  2. Conscious Mind:
    • The part of our mind which makes us aware is the CONSCIOUS MIND.
    • We are completely dependent on its functioning in our day to day life. We are most familiar with this part of our mind.
    • Our conscious mind operates at 13-30 Hz and is the normal waking state.
    • Your conscious mind is only the tip of the iceberg.
  3. Subconscious Mind:
    • The SUBCONSCIOUS MIND exists behind the veil of the conscious mind.
    • This is the place where our forgotten experiences & memories reside.
    • This is the actual iceberg below the surface.
    • Symbolically, it is said to be located in the hindbrain. But no specific physical location of our subconscious has been found till date.
    • This part of your brain/mind is developed before age 12 (approx.). That is why this is also called as your “inner child”.
    • Our mind operates at 8-13 Hz just before entering the subconscious.
    • This pre-hypnotic state is commonly seen when we are involved in a hypnotic activity like meditation, deep relaxation, watching movies, driving a car, etc.
    • The media takes advantage of this dreamy state to influence the masses.
    • So, if you’re reading this article, consider yourself lucky that you stumbled upon the good side of the internet.
  4. Unconscious Mind:
    • The UNCONSCIOUS MIND consists of processes that occur automatically.
    • It operates at 0.5-4 Hz and contains repressed memories and instinctual thoughts.
    • It is the seat of our connection with the universe and our cord to the collective consciousness.
    • From my experience, I would even like to assert that this part of our mind is like a “shared folder” amongst all beings.
    • It can be accessed through deep meditation.
    • Sometimes the terms ‘the subconscious’ and ‘the unconscious’ are used interchangeably.
    • The line between our unconscious and the subconscious mind is rather blurry.
    • You may also say that the deepest part of the subconscious is called the unconscious.

Features Of The Subconscious Mind:

  • A Storehouse Of Memories.
    • The subconscious is like a giant storehouse of memory. It can store an unlimited amount of information. Everything that ever happened to you, even in past lives, is stored in it. It is like the graveyard, the ghosts from which haunt our present. But it is not so scary in reality. If we choose to face those fears and overcome them, changing our thought patterns, we may walk through our lives peacefully and more productively.

    • If you haven’t read Dr. Joseph Murphy’s “The power of your subconscious mind”, you’re probably missing out on a great deal of what you can do in your life. This book will change your life.

  • The Seat Of Intuition.
    • It is our established thought process in our subconscious which makes up our habits. We have been conditioned for 1000s of years. Whenever we think about doing something new out of our comfort zone, our subconscious fears and anxieties get triggered and make us feel uncomfortable. Some people may even get anxiety attacks. So next time you feel uneasy before a new project, just think of it as a good thing. It might be something you have never done before. It’s time to grow!

·

  • Past Lives And Reincarnation.
    • Our memories and experiences make up our behaviors. I’m not just talking about our current life. Karma, past lives and reincarnation are no longer just “theories”. Established medical practitioners around the world are increasingly getting involved in the study of past lives for healing purposes. We have a whole “army” now! I will be talking about these in length in other posts.

    • The example of Dr. Brian Weiss is widely known. In his first book about this phenomenon, “Many Lives Many Masters”, he highlights how he discovered that the release of subconscious trauma caused mental, physical and spiritual healing in his patients. His subsequent publications made it clear how this therapy can be used for many ailments and how, even after physical death, we continue to live on as a soul. Regression hypnosis has also been used to recover memories from mysterious unexplained events like alien abduction and missing time.

    • Hypnosis opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to the subconscious mind. Past Life Regression is a little different from hypnosis but the background is the same.

·

  • The Source Of Creativity:
    • The subconscious is not just the stubborn child who won’t mend his ways easily but also the seat of invention and creativity. If you ever got to touch the surface of this all-knowing realm, you will know how abundant it is with knowledge of the universe. You can become a multi-potentialite like Leonardo da Vinci, write a bestseller like J.K. Rowling, make Oscar-winning music like A.R. Rahman, be a prodigy or even discover a way to harness the earth’s energy for free, like Nikola Tesla.

    • Of course, all of this needs talent, practice, commitment and a whole lot of learning. But, the one who is in touch with their subconscious, is a “natural” at it. Keeping aside all these extraordinary possibilities, an average human is just looking to get rid of their problems and live a peaceful life. That is possible too and is actually easier to do than finding an extraordinary ability.

If you’ve managed to read this till here, I appreciate your patience and eagerness to learn. This was the first hurdle that you have successfully passed. Kudos!

The 7 Rules Of The Subconscious Mind.

These are important to know in order to work with this knowledge to the best of your ability:

  1. The Subconscious Mind Is Always ON.
    • Even when you’re sleeping or in an unconscious state due to some reason. It is ALWAYS picking up everything that’s happening around you, to the smallest detail. It is working even if you’re under general anaesthesia. You might not be aware of what the doctors are talking amongst themselves but if they said something derogatory about you, it’ll surely have an effect on you when you wake up.

  2. It RECORDS Everything.
    • All the memories that you think you’ve forgotten. Your past lives, the memory of you being in your mother’s womb, your childhood, memories of the “missing time”, I mean EVERYTHING. It’s not that a baby won’t remember being abused when he grows up. The memory might not surface in their conscious awareness but it surely resides in their subconscious. It will have an effect on his psychology and behavior until the memory is identified and the trauma resolved.

  3. It Doesn’t Hear NO, NOT, Don’t, Etc.
    • If you keep thinking “I don’t want diseases”. Your subconscious only hears “I want diseases” and that’s what it attracts to you. Reform your words and start thinking and speaking POSITIVELY, always. “I am healthy”.

  4. It Cannot Comprehend The Future.
    • It only knows NOW. You should see your goals as if they’re already accomplished. Do not include the word “want”. It only creates more “wanting’. Of course, if you cannot do this all day, set aside some time every day for your meditation and visualization. 10 minutes is enough but it’s better if you can spare more.

  5. It Cannot Tell The Difference Between Imagination And An Actual Event.
    • Practice mindfulness to avoid overthinking. Secondly, if you imagine and visualize positive situations, it can attract those to you by shifting focus. As they say, “Thoughts become things”.

  6. 95% Of Our Life Is Based On Our Habits.
    • The rest 5% is what we do CONSCIOUSLY. This is the impact of our subconscious on our life and we must do something to control it OURSELVES.

  7. Repetition Creates Belief.
    • A habit takes at least 21 days to form. You need to practice an affirmation and visualization for at least 21 days for it to start working and for your thought patterns to change and for you to start BELIEVING in your goals. Remember, you have been conditioned for 1000s of years. What do you think it’ll take to change that?

  8. It mirrors your beliefs/wants/feelings in your reality.
    • It creates confirmation bias. When you try to manifest a particular car, have you noticed that you start seeing the same car everywhere, as if the whole world decided to buy that car? Those cars were always there, it’s just that your mind now focuses only on what it believes.

Let’s Look At The Main Three Ways That Can Help Re-Programme Your Mind From Years Of Conditioning And Take Control. You May Use These In A Combination That Suits You:

How to train your subconscious mind?

  1. Affirmations:
    • Affirmations are sentences that you formulate to declare something to your mind as the truth.

    • The Following Are Some Basic Rules To Help You Formulate Some Accurate And Effective Affirmations. Read All Of Them Before Formulating One For Yourself:

      • For example, you don’t want a lack of money in your life. But you always keep thinking and saying: “I don’t have enough money.” Change this thought pattern to stop thinking about what you DON’T have.

      • So, now you say the affirmation: ”I don’t have a lack of money.” Remember that the subconscious doesn’t know a yes or no/don’t.

      • Then you say, “I want money.”, which is still incorrect. It only knows the present tense.

      • Start the affirmation with positive verbs in present tense such as “I am, I have, We are, etc”. The word “want” only creates more of “wanting” and not actual “having”.

      • So, you now change the affirmation to: “I have money.” But you always have money, whether less or more. You want to add more to the sentence. “Lack” was a negative word. You removed it, now you need to add a positive word in the sentence.

      • So, you go: “I have surplus money!” or “I have all the money I need!” or you can combine this with a gratefulness affirmation: “Thank you Universe/God, for the surplus money!”

      • Associate feelings with your affirmation. Simply reciting affirmations does nothing. There has to be positive emotions attached to the words in the affirmations.

      • That being said, please do not force positivity. If you’re not feeling the best, express your emotions and practice affirmations later when you are feeling good or neutral.

      • You got it! Physically write down your own affirmations for your goals and problems. It helps them to materialize faster. Start practicing them daily and see the difference!

  2. Subliminal Affirmations And Binaural Beats:
    • Subliminals are messages that are not in our audible range but can be perceived by the subconscious mind.

    • It directly bypasses the conscious mind, thus removing its judgment and criticism.

    • Binaural beats are frequencies that help your brain tune into the favorable frequencies and stay there for a longer period of time.

    • There are subliminal and binaural audios available on YouTube for various purposes. You can also buy them from those who specifically make these.

    • Their effect has not been proven scientifically. But I have personally experienced great benefits and there is no harm in trying them.

    • The subliminal affirmations (pre-recorded affirmations) can be listened to just before sleeping, in a meditative state or just after waking up. As our brain is operating at a lower frequency at that time and is more impressionable.

    • I used these subliminals and binaural beats for a year or so. I started seeing results after around 6 months. I used to listen to them to help me fight depression and increase my academic performance but the effect they had on me was much more than that.

    • It opened my mind to “the beyond”. Eventually, it got too much for me. My mind couldn’t handle all the spiritual knowledge that I was channeling. So, I had to stop listening to them. But they set me on a path where I usually don’t need them.

  3. Visualization:
    • Visualization or creative visualization is a technique where you imagine and feel your goals as if they’re already fulfilled and events as if they’ve already occurred.

    • Steps For Effective Visualization:

      • Write down your goals:

        • Know exactly what you want. Just think that if you had a magic wand, how would you want your life to be.

        • While writing, focus on the experience of getting your goals fulfilled, rather than just getting the things.

        • Imagine and feel your goals as if you’re living them right now.

        • Associate emotions with the visions. This makes them even more powerful. Imagine how would you feel waking up in the morning, knowing that your goal is fulfilled, having your dream job or having the love of your life by your side. How happy, fulfilled, excited or loved you would feel?

        • Imagine specific scenarios. For example, who is your boss? Or maybe you are the boss! How do you feel in your office? What’s on your desk? How do you feel when you get your paycheck? Or How do you enjoy running for 8 miles? Include a lot of different emotions. Imagine actually doing those things.

        • Repeat your visualization as often as you like (but do not daydream in the class! lol).

        • Set aside time for your meditation and visualization.

        • Combine visualization and meditation.

        • You can do it yourself or listen to guided imagery audios. They are very effective for beginners in meditation.

  4. Meditation:
    • Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique to train the mind to relax, observe or be aware of something, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state.

    • Here is a full-fledged guide to meditation.

    • It may seem difficult in the beginning. But it gets better the more you practice.

    • Negative emotions often come up during the initial stages of meditation which need to be dealt with care.

    • If you think you need help, you may consult a meditation teacher, a guide, hypnotist or a past-life regression therapist to resolve emotional, physical, mental and spiritual traumas.

That’s all for now. Thank you for reading. I appreciate your patience. Now you’re fully equipped with the basic knowledge to train your subconscious mind. Use it well!

As Florence Scovel Shinn once said,

“If you don’t run your subconscious mind yourself, someone else will run it for you”.
